Good News | SME Undergraduate Students Won Awards in ICPC and CCPC Program Design Contests at Home and Abroad
From October to December, 2021, two student teams from the School of Management and Economics of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen won awards in the 7th China Collegiate Programming Contest (CCPC) and 46th International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC), with a total of 4 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medals.
Among the two teams, the Novices on the Road team, which is composed of Mang Qiuyang, freshman of the School of Management and Economics, Xu Yuan and Li Dongxu, freshmen of the School of Data Science, won the first gold medal in the programming contest for The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. The team basically occupies the place to represent China in the ICPC World Finals. Novices on the Road team created the record of directly entering the world finals after participating in the first ICPC contest.

Summary of Contest Results
It is worth mentioning that the program design contest team that the student of the School of Management and Economics belongs to is young, but has great strength and huge potential. In the Shenyang, Nanjing and Jinan contests of ICPC Asia regional contests, two student teams won 2 gold medals and 1 bronze medal. In the CPCC contests in Guangzhou and Guilin, the team of SME student won two gold medals, and a silver medal in the female contest.
In the ICPC Shenyang contest, the team stood out from nearly 600 teams from 271 universities in Asia and won the second place. In addition, they won the 3rd and 43rd places in the Nanjing and Jinan contests of ICPC respectively. In CPCC contests, they won the 8th place in the Guangzhou contest, 16th place in the Guilin contest and 43rd place in the female contest.
About the Contests
International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) is one of the largest and highest-level international collegiate programming contests in the world. The contest consists of two main stages: Regional Contests and World Finals. Each season lasts about nine months, and nearly 50,000 college students from more than 2,000 universities in more than 100 countries and regions from six continents take part in the contest. After more than 50 years of development, ICPC has become the most influential computer contest among college students in the world, known as the Olympic Games in the field of computer software.
China Collegiate Programming Contest (CCPC), an annual discipline contest sponsored by the Teaching Steering Committee of Computer Major in Higher Learning Institutions of the Ministry of Education, is aimed at stimulating students’ interest in acquiring professional knowledge and skills in the computer field, encouraging students to actively and flexibly use computer knowledge and skills to solve practical problems, effectively improving algorithm design, logical reasoning, mathematical modeling, programming implementation and computer system capabilities, and cultivating team cooperation awareness, challenge spirit and innovation ability. Since the inaugural CCPC contest in 2015, the scale of the contest has developed rapidly. More than 20,000 college students and 1,500 front-line coaches from over 600 universities in China have participated in the contest, and the influence of the contest has been continuously expanded. A large number of talents has been trained and selected for the development of China’s IT industry.
