Academic Staff
SME attaches great importance to both research and teaching and conforms to the standards of The Chinese University of Hong Kong to recruit leading experts in their fields as our professors. Up to end of 2022, there are 106 faculty members at SME. They all received Ph.D. degrees from prestigious universities internationally and many professors are leading experts in academic fields or industries.
SME Academic Achievement
Since 2014, SME faculty members have received more than 20 awards in the fields of economics, finance and management, and have participated in many research projects, including but not limited to The National Natural Science Foundation of China, Youth Program of National Natural Science Foundation of China, The Natural Science Foundation of Guangdong Province, The Science and Technology Innovation Committee of Shenzhen Municipality, Shenzhen Research Institute of Big Data, and etc. SME faculty have accumulated more than 200 publications in internationally reputable journals, including but not limited to Academy of Management Journal,American Economic Review,Contemporary Accounting Research,Human Resource Management,Journal of Accounting Research,Journal of Accounting and Economics, Journal of Consumer Research,Journal of Finance,Journal of Financial Economics,Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis,Journal of International Business Studies,Management Science,Manufacturing & Service Operations Management,Marketing Science,Nature, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes,Production and Operations Management,Quarterly Journal of Economics,Research Policy,Review of Finance,Strategic Management Journal,The Review of Financial Studies.
Cooperation with Financial Industry
SME has devoted substantial effort to build cooperations with well-known companies and institutions in the finance industry, such as the Shenzhen Stock Exchange (SZSE), China Construction Bank, Ping An Bank and Tencent. During the past years, SME has established regular workshops with the SZSE on stock trading mechanisms.
Collaboration with CUHK Business School
SME has also developed a close relationship with the CUHK Business School. Many SME faculty are listed as adjunct faculty of CUHK Business School, and are regularly invited to participate in CUHK Business School’s internal research workshops. SME has also co-organized a series of international symposium with the CUHK Business School, and actively involved CUHK Business School faculty in joint research projects organized by the SME and Shenzhen Finance Institute.
Academic Exchange Activities
SME has also hosted several high-profile academic symposiums and established high-end platforms for global exchange with top financial institutions, research institutes and governments across the world: (1) In December 2015, SME, together with the International Monetary Fund and Princeton University, hosted the International Symposium on Housing and Financial Stability in China. (2) In May 2016, SME, together with the National Bureau of Economic Research of the U.S., hosted the Chinese Economy Meeting. (3) In December 2016, SME, together with the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, hosted the International Finance Conference. (4) In December 2018, SME, together with Shenzhen Finance Institute and Asian Development Bank Institute, hosted 2018 Conference on FinTech, Central Bank Policies, and Financial Stability.
