PhD Application for Fall 2025 Opens on 1st Nov 2024
The application for Fall 2025 enrollment to the doctoral programmes in the School of Management and Economics (SME) will be open on 1st November 2024.
Programmes open for application for 2025 are namely:
● MPhil-PhD in Finance
Research focuses: asset pricing, corporate finance, financial intermediaries, market microstructure, behavioural finance, FinTech, and related domains.
● MPhil-PhD in Economics
Research focuses: microeconomic theory, applied microeconomics, financial economics, macroeconomics, international economics, industrial organization, market design, econometrics, economic data science, and related domains.
● MPhil-PhD in Accounting
Research focuses: financial accounting, auditing, managerial accounting, and related domains.
● MPhil-PhD in Marketing
Research focuses: consumer behavior, consumer judgment and decision making, quantitative modelling, behavioral marketing, and related domains.
● MPhil-PhD in Information Management and Business Analytics (IMBA)
Research focuses: information systems (IS) and operations management (OM).
Candidates from diverse disciplinary backgrounds are welcome. Most programmes take rolling admission, so early application is strongly recommended.
Fees and Funding
Various types of financial support may be offered to selected applicants, including tuition waivers and teaching/research assistantships (up to RMB10,000 before-tax per month during the normative period of study).

1. Application deadline
From 1st November, 2024 to 1st March, 2025
2. Admission requirements
The applicant should have:
- Attained a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university, achieving an average grade of no lower than “B” (Please refer to the home page of each programme for more details on the specific requirements);
- Meet the English language proficiency requirements stipulated by the Graduate School of CUHK-Shenzhen;
- Taken the GRE general test or GMAT.
3. Application materials
- Copies of bachelor’s and/or master’s degree certificate(s), graduation certificate(s), verification report(s) or Certificate of Enrollment
- Official transcripts
- TOEFL, IELTS or GMAT score report as evidence of English language proficiency
- GRE or GMAT score report
- Contact details of at least two referees
- Personal Statement (in English)
- Curriculum Vitae (in English)
- A writing sample (in English) is encouraged but not required
- Other supporting documents as deemed appropriate
4. How to apply
Applicants must submit their applications through the Graduate School's online application system (https://pgapply.cuhk.edu.cn). The non-refundable application fee is RMB 600.
