SME Students Deliver Excellent Performance in HKICPA Business Case Competition

On December 2, 2023, the final of the HKICPA Business Case Competition (hereinafter referred to as the HKICPA Business Competition) was held in Guangzhou. As the first offline competition since its restart in 2019, the HKICPA Business Competition attracted nearly 60 universities with more than 1,650 enrolled students.

Two teams from the School of Management and Economics (SME), The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-Shenzhen), stood out from more than 400 counterparts and 280 written reports. “TEAM 669” composed of Du Yixuan, Dong Yiqiao, Wang Le, and Xu Yuhao won the runner-up and the Best Written Report Award, while “TEAM 615” composed of Qin Sile, Yu Yu, Zhao Yuqian, and Zheng Lanqi won the Excellence Award.

In order to prepare students better, the SME organized a selection competition on campus in early October, attracting a total of 31 teams. The winners were determined after two rounds of competition. The college assigned instructors to the winners for pre-match guidance and training. Professors including Deng Tian, Li Mei, Lu Yifei, Tang Shibin, and Wilburn Tsang (in alphabetical order by their last name) provided earnest assistance and great support during the school selection.

The HKICPA Business Competition has been held online for the past three years. This year marks its first offline competition, which requires students to be better prepared. Compared with last year, there are more participators and the contestants are of higher quality in general, making the competition fiercer.
Our students spent a lot of time and energy preparing for and competing in the competition, delivering their dues or even performing better than usual in the final. I feel that our students' performance at the competition is no inferior to this year’s championship team. Although they didn’t win a championship, they’ve learned the lesson that they are on thin ice in the business competition, which requires them to try their best to be perfectly flawless and widen the gap between them and others in every detail.
