GBA Entrepreneurs Forum 2023 Successfully Concluded
On November 19, 2023, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Entrepreneurs Forum was held successfully in Shenzhen. The forum was co-organized by The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-Shenzhen), Shenzhen Finance Institute (SFI), Our Hong Kong Foundation (OHKF), the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Shenzhen Municipal Committee (CCPIT Shenzhen), Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Entrepreneurs Alliance, and Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macau Cooperation and Innovation Research Association, with a focus on the challenges and opportunities faced by the development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) amid changing international landscapes to thoroughly explore important issues such as the development strategy, industrial upgrading, and technological innovation in the GBA. The forum attracted widespread attention from all walks of life. More than 300 representatives of government departments, business leaders, renowned scholars, and others from Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao participated in the forum with more than 2.33 million online viewers.

Opening Speeches
Xu Yangsheng, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of The CUHK-Shenzhen, extended a warm welcome to the guests present at the forum. President Xu said that CUHK-Shenzhen has been committed to cultivating international first-class innovative talents for the GBA and the rest of China. The CUHK-Shenzhen has attached great importance to industry-university-research cooperation and signed a number of school-enterprise cooperation agreements. It will also consistently contribute to national and local economic growth in basic scientific research.
John Lee, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), mentioned in his speech that the GBA is one of the most dynamic and promising lands for economic growth in China. The HKSAR government will make every effort to align with major national strategies such as the construction of the GBA and leverage the advantages of Hong Kong to “bring in” international funds to other Greater Bay Area cities and even provinces and cities in the Chinese Mainland and help companies with overseas business expansion plans to “go out.”
On behalf of the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government, Wang Shourui, Vice Mayor of the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government, thanked all the guests for their long-term care and support for the economic growth in Shenzhen. Cai Guanshen (Jonathan Choi), Member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, President of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, Hong Kong, Chairman of the Hong Kong-based Sunwah Group, Chairman of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Entrepreneurs Alliance, and Member of the Chief Executive’s Council of Advisers, Hong Kong, mentioned that it is necessary to do a good job in aligning rules with mechanisms and give full play to the advantages of Hong Kong with its practice of “One Country, Two Systems” and position as Harbour of Freedom to make GBA better adapt to international economic and trade rules. Guan Xiangming, Leading Party Member and Secretary-General of the Guangdong Federation of Industry and Commerce, noted in his speech that the Guangdong Federation of Industry and Commerce is committed to promoting the complementary advantages of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao and building a high-quality platform for the GBA to accelerate integrated development and create new advantages for regional development.

Mr. Antony Leung Kam-Chung, former Financial Secretary of the HKSAR Government and Chairman of Nan Fung Group; Luo Kangrui, Chairman of Shui On Group; and Ni Zewang, former Party Committee Secretary and Chairman of Shenzhen Capital Group, delivered wonderful keynote speeches respectively under the theme of “promoting entrepreneurship and ushering in a new era of integrated development in the Greater Bay Area.”
Professor Zheng Yongnian, Presidential Chair Professor of The CUHK-Shenzhen, former Dean of the Institute for International Affairs, Qianhai, Chairman of the Guangzhou Institute of GBA, and Member of the Chief Executive’s Policy Unit (CEPU) Expert Group; and Li Cheng, Director of Centre on Contemporary China and the World and Professor of the Department of Politics and Public Administration of the University of Hong Kong, conducted a dialogue on “China-US relations and the global political and economic landscapes” with their in-depth analysis on the status and role of China and the United States in the global political and economic patterns and countermeasures to the current challenges.
Zhang Chunhua, Chairman of China Brilliant Global Limited; Li Jundong, Chairman of Hongli Zhihui Group (HONGLITRONIC); and Luo Yi, Vice President of Shenzhen Intellifusion Technologies Co., Ltd., shared their profound insights into “Industrial Structure Transformation and Manufacturing Upgrading in China.”
Michael Yang Mengsu, Vice President of the City University of Hong Kong and Co-founder of CELLOMICS (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. and Prenetics Ltd., Hong Kong; Zeng Yijing (Jim Zeng), Director and Shenzhen representative of the GBA Service Center at Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC); Zhu Yuelong, President of Hangzhou Aili Intelligent Control Technology Co., Ltd., Hangzhou Langwan Technology Operation Co., Ltd., and Double Bay Engine, and Founding Partner of Shenzhen Goldport Capital; Mo Weixuan, Development Director of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (Greater Bay Area); and Chen Wanzhen, Executive Vice President of Strategic Development and Government Affairs for the GBA of Ant Group, held wonderful roundtables on “Building a World-class Science and Technology Innovation Hub in the Greater Bay Area with Superimposed Advantages.”
Closing Speech
Xiong Wei, Academic Dean of the School of Management and Economics, SFI, and Shenzhen Institute of Data Economy, CUHK-Shenzhen, delivered a closing speech for the forum. He said that the SME and SFI will work ceaselessly to build a platform for high-level dialogue, exchange, and cooperation among entrepreneurs, think tanks, and governments and contribute their strengths to important aspects of the development in the GBA and the rest of China.
