Embarking on Her Passion:A Path into the Fashion World
Radinka Nicole, a talented and ambitious student hailing from Jakarta, Indonesia, is carving her path to success in the vibrant fashion business landscape. During her summer holidays, Radinka seized the opportunity to immerse herself in the professional world through internships in Indonesia. At YSA Studios, a renowned company, she thrived as a content creator intern, honing her skills in crafting engaging and impactful digital content. Simultaneously, Radinka took on the role of Chief Operations and Finance Officer at Slow Move Bazaar, where she displayed remarkable leadership abilities and showcased her knack for seamlessly managing financial operations.
Radinka was confident in her leadership skills. “I am knowledgeable in the art of earning respect and building trust from individuals who are not familiar with me. Meanwhile, I possess the ability to establish myself as a person of value and gain their confidence in my leadership capabilities.,” said Radinka. With her finger on the pulse of fashion trends and a keen eye for aesthetics, Radinka's internship proved to be the perfect canvas for her talents. As a content creator, she excelled in generating fresh and imaginative ideas that resonated with her audience. Leveraging her background in social media , Radinka seamlessly merged her love for fashion with her innate ability to captivate and engage viewers.
Slow Move Bazaar, an independent company that organizes the hottest fashion bazaar event in Indonesia, provided more opportunities for Radinka’s personal growth. From planning and booking a court to providing MOUs and finally hosting the event, Radinka walked through the whole process and developed her communication & leadership skills. Additionally, she had the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of herself and explore her future aspirations.
Based on her internship experience and her passion for teamwork, Radinka intends to pursue a minor in marketing. In the future, Radinka would like to work in the dynamic and creative industry after completing her master's degree. Her time at the bazaar company has significantly influenced her future ambitions. Upon returning to Indonesia, she aims to establish her own sustainable fashion business.
PART TWO
Embracing Cultural Roots: A Journey to China
“Ever since I was a little girl, I've had a strong desire to travel overseas.” said Radinka. The thought of becoming a fashion designer crossed her mind when she was a child. However, as she progressed through high school, her interest shifted toward business. Upon receiving recommendations from friends and seniors, she applied to the School of Management & Economics (SME) at CUHK-Shenzhen.
As an Indonesian with Chinese heritage, Radinka's decision to pursue her studies in China was a natural culmination of her enthusiasm for her ancestral roots. While her transition to life in China was relatively smooth, she did encounter one significant hurdle: the language barrier. However, with resilience and determination, Radinka quickly overcame this obstacle.
Within weeks, Radinka found herself enamored with her new home in Shenzhen. The city's pristine environment and clean air left a lasting impression on her. "What's truly remarkable to me is the cleanliness of Shenzhen and its unpolluted environment," Radinka commented. Additionally, the integration of innovative digital payment systems like WeChat Pay and Alipay enhanced the convenience of her daily life.
Despite her relatively short stay of one semester in Shenzhen, Radinka's involvement in the Indonesian Student Association spanned nearly two years. Assuming the role of treasurer, Radinka took responsibility for managing the association's finances, ensuring the smooth organization of various events and activities.
PART THREE
Studying at CUHK-Shenzhen
Talking about her study experience at CUHK-Shenzhen, Radinka explained from three aspects: the courses, the atmosphere, and the support. As a sophomore student, Radinka hasn’t taken many finance courses yet. However, school packaged courses have played a pivotal role in laying a robust groundwork for her future studies in the business field. One aspect that particularly resonated with Radinka was the smaller-sized English classes, which fostered an environment conducive to meaningful teacher-student communication.
For Radinka, the study atmosphere at CUHK-Shenzhen proved to be a revelation. Upon her arrival, she was astounded to discover that nearly all students dedicated themselves to intensive studying at the library in preparation for their final exams. This collective commitment to academic excellence had a profound impact on Radinka, igniting a newfound drive within her. In addition, Radinka found the teachers at CUHK-Shenzhen to be very supportive. Recognizing the importance of guidance and mentorship, she proactively sought advice from her academic advisor upon her arrival. This interaction proved invaluable, as she received practical and insightful advice that helped shape her future journey.
PART FOUR
Navigating Challenges with Grace
In May, Radinka was quite occupied as the Indonesian Student Association had arranged two events. Balancing her time between preparing for finals and organizing the events was challenging. To stay organized, she always carries a planner book with her. It was crucial to jot down all the tasks and appointments in advance to effectively manage her time. Regarding the challenge, Radinka also recounted an incident from her experience organizing a bazaar. The event had approximately 130 bazaar tenants. However, some of the food the bazaar tenants wanted to leave 2 hours earlier than agreed upon in the contract. They insisted on speaking to Radinka, who was in charge, and proceeded to yell at her due to her younger age. Despite their disrespectful behavior, Radinka handled the situation with maturity. She maintained a composed expression and promptly called security.
Reflecting on these challenges, Radinka gained a valuable life lesson—that at some point, in some place, we are bound to encounter problems that demand our attention. She learned the importance of approaching such difficulties with a sense of calm and responsibility. With a smile, Radinka noted, “As the organizer of the bazaar, I cannot response with anger, right?” This anecdote showcases her ability to rise above confrontations, demonstrating her capacity to handle adversity with poise and professionalism.
